Watch Pan’s Labyrinth Star Ivana Baquero Reading for Carrie Remake

Here’s an interesting video brought to our attention by DC reader Mike, which features Pan’s Labyrinth star Ivana Baquero reading for the role of Sue Snell in Kim Peirce’s redux of the classic Stephen King tome Carrie. Dig it.

She didn’t get that part, but earlier today it was reported that Baquero is the frontrunner to play sexy bad girl “Chris” in Screen Gems and MGM’s Carrie remake. If picked, she’ll join the previously announced Julianne Moore as Margaret White, Carrie’s mom, Gabriella Wilde (who ended up landing the role of Sue Snell), Alex Russell, Ansel Elgort, and of course Chloe Moretz in the title role.

Look for Kim Peirce’s Carrie to be in theatres on March 15, 2013.

In the story shy high school student Carrie White (Chloe Moretz) is raised by a nightmarish religious fanatic mother (Moore) and comes to grip with devastating telepathic powers just as she reaches puberty. She eventually uses those gifts for lethal means when fellow classmates use the prom as an excuse to humiliate her before the entire school in a parable about bullying.

Sissy Spacek played the character in the first movie, with Piper Laurie playing her mother, and Amy Irving, Nancy Allen, John Travolta, Betty Buckley, and William Katt rounding out the cast. Both Spacek and Laurie got Oscar nominations for their work in the 1976 film.
