Ridley Scott to Helm Red Riding
Unfortunately, this isn’t a story about Ridley Scott adapting Little Red Riding Hood (imagine that), but rather a police procedural thriller that Scott will direct from a Steven Zaillian script for Columbia Pictures.
Variety reports that Scott will reteam with American Gangster and Hannibal screenwriter Zaillian for Red Riding, a remake of a U.K. miniseries (artwork below) and an adaptation of a series of David Peace novels (the most recent is due out in February, 2010) about the study of power and police corruption framed around the investigation of the disappearance of several young girls. For the pic, the setting will be transferred from Britain to the U.S. The mini clocked in at more than five hours, so Zaillian and Scott have their work cut out for them to compress it into one film.

US distribution will be through IFC. No word on casting yet, but knowing Scott, we imagine you can expect Russell Crowe to show up in there at some point.
