Eli Roth-Produced Cotton Screening for Sundance

Eli Roth was an attendee of Mexico’s Morelia Film Festival, where he updated the media on all his latest projects, including one that’s been conspicuously light on the details, Cotton, which Roth is producing only along with Strike Entertainment.
Cotton, penned by Huck Botko and Andrew Gurland and directed by Daniel Stamm, stars Patrick Fabian (pictured, better known as Bill Henrickson’s bastard brother-in-law on “Big Love”) as a troubled evangelical minister who agrees to let his last exorcism be filmed by a documentary crew. Per Variety Roth will be showing Cotton to Sundance in “a couple of weeks” with hopes of premiering it there in January.
With Cotton now completed, Roth is hammering out the script for his first sci-fi venture, Endangered Species, about which, claims the director, “I haven’t been this excited about an idea since the first ‘Hostel’.” He also ran the script by Tarantino for notes. “Quentin is the greatest story editor you could have, and I trust him implicitly,” he said.
Along with Species, which should be in the finished script stage by the end of this month, Roth is also fine tuning the feature version of Thanksgiving. Ideally, Roth would like to shoot both back to back. At the moment, however, Endangered Species comes first. As writer, director, and producer, Roth is keeping the plot of Species hush-hush for now. Roth stressed that he does not plan on reusing actors and that the only thing in common for the two will be his “sick sense of humor.”
As for the third Hostel flick, Roth is not involved in any way and says, “I’ll be as surprised by it as everyone else.”
