The wait is over, kids! Your first look at the trailer for Lionsgate’s The Possession, formerly The Dibbuk Box, is here; and we have got to say the flick is looking all kinds of good. Check it out, and think twice before buying anything that’s remotely spooky looking!

After watching the goods below, tweet your thoughts with #ThePossession as your hashtag to tell Lionsgate what you think so far. You never know what they’ll respond!

The flick centers upon a family who finds themselves in possession of a haunted box and their struggles to get rid of its evil curse. The jumping off point is a true story culled from the Leslie Gornstein-bylined Los Angeles Times article “A Jinx In A Box” (July 2004).

Look for Ole Bornedal’s The Possession starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Kyra Sedgwick, Madison Davenport, and Natasha Calis in theatres on August 31st, 2012.

Based on true events, ‘The Possession’ is the terrifying story of how one family must unite in order to survive the wrath of an unspeakable evil. Clyde (Morgan) and Stephanie Brenek (Sedgwick) see little cause for alarm when their youngest daughter Em becomes oddly obsessed with an antique wooden box she purchased at a yard sale. But as Em’s behavior becomes increasingly erratic, the couple fears the presence of a malevolent force in their midst, only to discover that the box was built to contain a dibbuk, a dislocated spirit that inhabits and ultimately devours its human host.

I love Kyra and Jeffrey so was planning to see this anyway, but after watching the trailer, I’m thinking it might be pretty darn good… and really spooky, too! Although I had to laugh when the little girl jumped the rabbi.
