After months of title changes and delays, later today, at 4:00 PM PST, we’ll finally get our first look at the trailer for Lionsgate’s The Possession, formerly The Dibbuk Box. But wait … there’s more! Read on for the details.

You can start your road to discovery and get a peek inside the Dibbuk Box now just by checking out the teaser image below and then tweeting your thoughts with #ThePossession as your hashtag to tell Lionsgate what you think so far. You never know what they’ll respond!

The flick centers upon a family who finds themselves in possession of a haunted box and their struggles to get rid of its evil curse. The jumping off point is a true story culled from the Leslie Gornstein-bylined Los Angeles Times article “A Jinx In A Box” (July 2004).

Look for Ole Bornedal’s The Possession starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Kyra Sedgwick, Madison Davenport, and Natasha Calis in theatres on August 31st, 2012.

Synopsis
Based on true events, ‘The Possession’ is the terrifying story of how one family must unite in order to survive the wrath of an unspeakable evil. Clyde (Morgan) and Stephanie Brenek (Sedgwick) see little cause for alarm when their youngest daughter Em becomes oddly obsessed with an antique wooden box she purchased at a yard sale. But as Em’s behavior becomes increasingly erratic, the couple fears the presence of a malevolent force in their midst, only to discover that the box was built to contain a dibbuk, a dislocated spirit that inhabits and ultimately devours its human host.

    Hi Kiddcapone,
I agree that the L.A. Times article by Leslie Gornstein has a lot of fluff to it.

But have you read the non-fiction book on the topic “The Dibbuk Box”?

After reading that maybe you can decide – “Based on True Events” – Bullshit or Not

WOW!! I just watched The Possession” movie trailer twice and… this is going to be good — real good – no doubt.

Congrats to Raimi, Bornedal and the Ghost House Team!

I despise “based on a true story” tagline bullshit. It’s an embarrassment. You read the article and it’s a whole lot about nothing but people who buy stupid shit sold on Ebay.
