What better way to spend your Fourth of July weekend than by watching one of the best supernatural thrillers of the Eighties and finally getting the chance to witness ghost rape in hi-def? You’ll get to do both this July when The Entity comes to Blu-ray.

Barbara Hershey and Ron Silver star in Sidney J. Furie’s 1982 “based on a true story” tale of a woman terrorized by a physically and sexually abusive poltergeist and her desperate struggle to contend with both her supernatural ordeal and those that believe she’s simply crazy.

Synopsis:
Carla Moran awakens one night to find herself being beaten and raped by an unseen presence. Terrified of what’s happening to her and shunned by friends and family who think she’s lost her mind, she seeks help from parapsychologists. The researchers soon discover that an evil spiritual force has been drawn to Carla and is responsible for the violent attacks. The question now, however, is how do they stop it? Based on a supposedly true story.

Starz/Anchor Bay are set to re-release The Entity on DVD July 3rd (a 2005 DVD release is now out-of-print), but more importantly, The Entity will make its bow on Blu-ray the same day. No word yet as to what, if any, supplemental material will be included.

The entity is not the poltergeist of her deceased ex-husband. I thought in the movie it was never identified. It was noted the demon just seemed to be very sexually aggressive with her for some reason.

You are both correct. Didn’t realize until you pointed it out that for some reason I seem to have gotten my plots mixed up with 100 Feet, somehow. Probably because the whole time I was watching 100 Feet I kept thinking how much it reminded me of The Entity.

The story is NOT about “the poltergeist of her deceased ex-husband.” The origin and identity of the “entity” is unknown in the original novel and the film it was based on. Please get your facts straight.
