Abandoned Date Set

New poster for The Abandoned (click for a better look!))I don’t know about you, but to me it really feels like there should be more buzz around the feature length debut for Nacho Cerda, whom most fans will recall as the director of the incredibly shocking and disturbing short film “Aftermath.” It’s pretty quiet out there, but maybe that’s just because no one’s seen it yet.

That will change come Monday, September 11th, which we just learned is the day The Abandoned will be debuting at the Toronto International Film Festival. The film will join the likes of J. T. Petty’s S&Man, Christopher Smith’s Severance, Bong Joon-Ho’s The Host, and the anthology Trapped Ashes as part of TIFF’s Midnight Madness programming. Oh, man I wish I could be there; if you are going, make sure sure you get the full schedule (which also includes the debut of the first Rue Morgue Cinema film, The Eyes of Edward James) right here.

The Abandoned is about an adopted woman who returns to her birth parents’ home in Russia, meets a man who claims to be her brother, and becomes haunted by her own ghost. It sounds like just the kind of strange we need more of these days. Above you can see the latest poster for the film, which includes the new tagline “40 Years to Learn the Truth… 24 Hours to Survive It”. Nice!
