Fans who might be disappointed that the film version of Jonah Hex seems to have dropped most of its supernatural elements can take pleasure in knowing that so far Screen Gems' Priest is very much calling itself a horror-Western. And it shouldn't be lacking in the action department either thanks to today's announcement that Maggie Q has joined the cast.
Q, who appeared in Live Free or Die Hard and Mission Impossible III, joins Paul Bettany and Cam Gigandet in the Scott Stewart-helmed genre-bender. Stewart also directed the upcoming Legion with Bettany. THR describes Priest, adapted by Cory Goodman from a TokyoPop comic, as being set in a world ravaged by war between man and vampires. It follows a warrior priest (Bettany) who teams with a sheriff (Gigandet) to track down a murderous band of vampires who have kidnapped his niece.
Q's priestess, a vampire hunter as tough as the priests, will join them on their journey, and we should be able to see the result sometime in 2010.
