Horror fans, the excruciating wait is almost over! This Friday the 13th Lionsgate is set to unleash undoubtedly one of the best modern horror films of all time with Drew Goddard’s The Cabin in the Woods (review here), which was co-written and produced by Joss Whedon.

Last week Dread Central had the distinct pleasure of hosting a special advance screening of The Cabin in the Woods for the students of UC Berkeley in Northern California as well as a Q&A with Goddard and one of the flick’s co-stars, Amy Acker (whom Whedon fans will recognize as Fred from “Angel”).

And while 95 percent of that Q&A was pretty spoiler heavy and we wouldn’t dream of ruining anything for you fans out there, we did manage to grab a few soundbites from Goddard and Acker, which we’ve got for you below as well as a video of several fans from the Berkeley screening who were more than eager to discuss their experiences watching this mind-bending flick.

Drew Goddard on Getting The Cabin in the Woods Made and the Fans:

It’s funny, but Joss and I never expected that anyone would ever let us make this movie, let alone make it completely on our own terms. We do a lot of interesting things in this movie, and to be able to have this kind of freedom was really amazing. I think that’s why people are loving this- it’s original and they can tell that we had free rein to do whatever we wanted. That’s rare.

And I also love the fact that the fans who have seen the movie so far have been great about not ruining anything for those who haven’t yet. This has been one of those projects that has been shrouded in secrecy for a few years now – including what happened with MGM and then Lionsgate coming in to rescue us – so I’m just excited that I finally get to talk about everything I’ve been holding in for a few years now.

Amy Acker on Reteaming with Drew and Joss for The Cabin in the Woods:

I love these guys, and I pretty much knew I didn’t have to read the script to want to be a part of this. But thankfully the script was beyond amazing, which made this whole experience that much better. I loved my role and that I wasn’t exactly the kind of character you may be expecting to see, but there I am. Plus, what ends up happening with my character in the movie was just so much fun, and I felt really lucky to get to work with these guys again on something as cool as this.
