Cast of The Chainsaw Sally Show Talk Season 2 and BeyondThe Chainsaw Sally Show recently aired the final episode of their eagerly anticipated web series’ Season 2. The stars of the production were gracious enough to sit down with Dread Central and talk about the adventures of creating this indie production.

Director and co-star of The Chainsaw Sally Show Season 2, JimmyO Burril, joined us with the three beautiful stars of the show, April Burril, Debbie Rochon and Nicolette LeFaye.

JimmyO (who directs and also stars as uber-villain Angel Eyes) talked about just how it felt to wrap season 2 of the show without knowing if we would ever see Sally again. “Our crew is tiny,” JimmyO said. “It’s eight people, including us (himself and April). And we took Sally up to the conclusion we wanted. It’s a satisfying ending, but it leaves it open for more. If we go back to Sally, I think I want to take her to a city. I think it would be cool to find out what would happen. But certainly not a Jason Takes Manhattan situation.”

Acknowledging the improvement in the writing, April Burril, who plays Sally said, “When I read the script for the first time, I just loved the plot,” And she is also pondering the future for the character. “Sally might come back to Porterville, she might not. She might go somewhere else.”

Legend of the horror genre, Debbie Rochon, has appeared in both seasons of The Chainsaw Sally Show and also notes the vast improvements between the two. “I think Season 2 is just amazing,” Rochon said. It’s so tight. It’s so good. It just moves very quickly and keeps you entertained. Season 1 was already very good, and having done The Good Sisters with Jimmy, which he did an excellent job with and the original Chainsaw Sally movie already had a following. But I think this was kind of the golden season. It hit its stride.”

As The Chainsaw Sally Show is basically a do-it-yourself project, the creators run into some really unique situations, especially when filming the action and fight scenes. “April and I are really comfortable with what our limitations are so we’re going to push each other more than someone else might,” JimmyO said. “But we got hurt (filming CSS finale). We were walking funny for about a week. And flinging myself down the stairs…I had done that kind of foolishness a lot when I was younger. I knew how to fall. I’ve gone down many a set of stairs for the joke of it. I have not been down a set of stairs over 40 before. That’s different.”

“And we were looking at a rickety old desk that was almost falling apart and I said you know one of us has to go through that thing,” April added. “I said I can’t pick you up, but you can pick me up. I’ll go through it.”

However, Mick Foley-like falls are not the extent of what the Forbidden Family will put themselves through for the sake of the project as Rochon relates. “I met them at a convention and thought they were great and they were about to make the Chainsaw Sally movie. I saw it, I thought it was terrific. Great characters and a lot of fun. We became friends and ended up doing The Good Sisters. Working with them, they became part of my family. In fact, before doing The Good Sisters, Jimmy had to have a kidney operation and I had to have a brain operation and we scheduled them around shooting the film.” That is hardcore.

And that family atmosphere resonates loudly throughout the entire cast and project. “I guess I have kind of always felt like a family member when it comes to JimmyO and April, as they have been dear friends of mine since I was a teenager,” says Nicolette LeFaye, who plays Sally’s adorable “pet,” Miss Busy Bee. “That said, it’s really fun to see our off-screen friendship reflected on the series. Jimmy gives me a lot of freedom when it comes to the development of Miss Busy Bee, and the character’s mannerisms and quirks are largely based on my observations of my formerly feral cat, Fleas, when she was a kitten in heat.”

LeFaye continues, “JimmyO is as intense as he is incredibly silly. One minute he’s cracking jokes about enemas and the next he is all seriousness, preparing you for the next scene. You rarely can tell which Jimmy you are going to get at any given moment with his perpetually stern expression, which he often wears even when he’s joking around. He’s fantastic to work with and has no problem completely scrapping and re-shooting or changing a scene if he isn’t satisfied. He’s totally dedicated to the finished product.”

Rochon echoes LeFaye’s sentiments on JimmyO’s love of his craft. “It’s tough living the life of a artist, but Jimmy is. He really is. He’s a musician, he’s a director, he’s a writer, he’s a web designer. He’s so many things and they all have to do with this artistic background and flair that he has. But it’s a really hard life because the fans…the cult world is difficult because there’s only X amount of sales you can do to keep going with the series or movie or anything until you must kick up to the next level. People may say ‘oh, so and so is a sell-out,’ but it’s very hard to live your entire life on the true indie level.”

Fans of the Chainsaw Sally Show are undoubtedly familiar with April Burril’s ability to morph from what is basically a sit-com character into a blood-lusting murderer. “Sally always had three distinct personalities,” April said. “She’s got Sally at home, the big sister…very silly. The most relaxed version of Sally. Then there’s the librarian. Sally trying to pretend like she’s a normal person. She kind of pulls it off, but sometimes it’s a little weird because she doesn’t know how to be normal. And Sally as a killer (our favorite) is a big flipping of the switch. I have to turn off all her joy, all of her laughter. Not all of it because the dark humor is still there. She enjoys killing. It’s a big release for her.”

And LeFaye has followed suit as her character has evolved in Season 2. Miss Busy Bee when from just Sally’s “pet” to an integral part of the story. Talking about how she prepares to perform Busy Bee, LeFaye said, ” I learn my lines, read them as naturally as possible, and react as I feel my character would. People often talk about the differences between doing comedy and drama, but I honestly don’t see much difference between the two. I also kind of want to punch actors in the face when I see them off-set doing stretches and making weird sounds to ‘prepare’ for the act of pretending to experience something. (You go, Nikki!) Of course it is more trying to go through a rape scene (particularly as a survivor of sexual violence) than it is to have April put on bunny ears and take a power sander to my nether regions, but that’s something I deal with afterward.”

Now that Season 2 has completed its web series run the Chainsaw Sally Show Season 2 DVD will become available at the end of April! JimmyO has created a very simple, but very effective game to go with the Chainsaw Sally Show Season 2 DVD called The Busy Butt Drinking Game. According to JimmyO, the rules are simple, “Every time you see Nikki’s (Miss Busy Bee’s) butt, you drink. For the really adventurous, throw in April’s butt, too and you’ll be tanked in no time.”

Although many of the fans watched the serial as each episode was released, Rochon thinks they’ll still want the DVD. “Jimmy and April and everyone involved have done such a great job. Being it was such a wham, bam powerful season, think people are gonna want to but it and get the case and the megaton of extras and stuff. There’s a lot of care and love in this project and I think that shows.
