Peter Jackson Making His First Appearance at Comic-Con

Forget bus benches and billboards. The buzz behind District 9 just got a helluva lot louder with the announcement that Peter Jackson, one of the producers, will be making his first ever San Diego Comic-Con appearance in support of the film, which Sony is releasing August 14th.

It so happens that Jackson has the time and is happy to support director Neill Blomkamp. “I’m thrilled that I finally have the opportunity,” Jackson said in an e-mail message to the New York Times. “Neill is a tremendously talented young director, and he’s made an extraordinary film, so it was important to me to come to San Diego to spread the word.” He added that attendees will be in for “quite a ride,” but did not elaborate.

The Times also mentions that Jackson’s availability is the result of a short break in his schedule. His adaptation of The Lovely Bones is finished. (DreamWorks and Paramount Pictures plan to release it on Dec. 11.) The two-part Hobbit adaptation (of which he is a writer and a producer; Guillermo del Toro will direct) is in development, the first half with a 2012 target release, while The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn, which he is producing, is in postproduction.

And speaking of those benches and signs, they’ve already received almost 12,000 calls to the 866 number shown with a whole lot more expected in July during Comic-Con I’m sure!

It’s still unknown if James Cameron will be showing off any scenes from Avatar, but Summit has already confirmed a big presence for New Moon during the four-day show. It goes down July 23-26, and I certainly hope you already have your tickets because it is completely sold out.
