Banned Thirst PosterHollywood just can’t get enough of acclaimed Korean filmmaker Park Chan-wook’s output. Three of his projects are in various stages of remake development, and it’s starting to look like his vampire priest saga Thirst is going to join them.

Here’s a quick look at what’s ongoing at the present time:

  • Oldboy (review here) is being developed at DreamWorks as a potential pairing of director Steven Spielberg and Will Smith; Vertigo’s Roy Lee and Doug Davison will be producers.
  • Sympathy for Lady Vengeance is being developed by Charlize Theron as a vehicle for the actress to star in and produce through her Denver and Delilah Prods.
  • Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance (review here) is being developed by Transformers producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura.
  • According to Variety, we can thank the success of Twilight for all the interest in Thirst even though most assuredly their target audiences are vastly different. But hey, whatever it takes to bring attention to Park is good, right?

As for whether or not he has any desire to get involved in the English-language remakes, Park says, “I want them to treat my films as if they were books and I was an 18th Century writer who has long been dead.” We’ll take that as a resounding “no”!
