James Marsden Signs Up for Straw Dogs Redux

James Marsdem Signs Up for Straw Dogs ReduxThere's no doubt Sam Peckinpah's 1971 film Straw Dogs, which was based upon the book The Siege at Trencher's Farm by Gordon Williams, is widely regarded as an absolute classic. And like all classics, we knew that sooner or later someone would get the bug up his ass to remake it. So now it's out with the Hoffman and in with the Cyclops.

According to The Hollywood Reporter James Marsden of X-Men fame has signed on for the lead role in Rod Lurie's redux of Straw Dogs for Screen Gems.

This latest telling follows Los Angeles screenwriter David Sumner (Marsden), who moves with his wife to her hometown in the Deep South. Once there, tensions build in their marriage and old conflicts re-emerge with the locals, leading to a violent confrontation.

Cameras roll in August.

Straw Dogs?! So I guess its only a matter of time before before we see a remake of Citizen Kane, with Zac Efron taking over for Orson Welles. They'll make 'Rosebud' the name of his Segway. If all the studios care about is cashing in on a title, wouldn't it be cheaper to just re-release the original to theaters instead of making a whole new movie?

And I can't wait to go into a video store in ten years when there's two of every damn movie. They'll just be two sections: the originals and remakes. They'll keep 're-imaginings' behind the beaded curtain with the rest of the trash.

Taking it out of the English countryside? Cyclops in the Dustin Hoffman role? This sounds like the suckiest suck remake that ever sucked.

Sorry, but NO ONE could replace Susan George! Cyclops? Oh yeah, he has the chops to match a young Dustin Hoffman. *sigh*
