Calling All R.I. Screamwriters!

We recently received word from Ryan Murphy of ScareRI about a very cool sounding event being held this coming weekend in Providence, Rhode Island.

Screamwriting competition in Providence, RI

ScareRI is a company started by director/producer Michael Corrente (I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead, Brooklyn Rules) with financing in place for ten independent $1 million horror films. The films will be made completely in Rhode Island from pre-production, shooting, editing, and post. To help promote the company and find some local talent, ScareRI will be hosting a “Sreamwriting” competition beginning Saturday, September 29, in Providence at the Peerless Lofts Atrium, 150 Union Street.

The competition will be comprised of three stages, the first of which occurs on the 29th: Pitch your idea — verbally only — within four minutes. No written materials will be allowed. From there, the finalists will submit a three- to four-page treatment describing the characters and overall theme. If that passes muster, they’ll be asked for a full 75- to 90-page script. The winner(s) of the competition will get their movie made.

Additionally, ScareRI will be working with several educational institutions in the state (RISD, Rhode Island College, Providence College, New England Tech, etc.) to give students first-hand opportunities to work on a feature.

If you think you’ve got what it takes, visit ScareRI’s official site for more details along with the contest rules and regs. Good luck, New Englanders!
