Bruce Campbell and Jane Levy Talks Scary Evil Dead RemakeIt seems so long ago that we broke the story of a remake of the 1981 Sam Raimi classic. Since then things have been moving along nicely. The flick has finally found its Ash-like character in Jane Levy and recently she sat down to talk about the upcoming film along with The Chin himself.

“You can expect to have a damn scary horror movie,” says former franchise Bruce Campbell to The Insider. “There’s no Ash character — The Evil Book is going to torment a new set of kids, so it’s a remake, or a re-imagining or … a re-whatever word you want to use. It’s going to be re-scary.” And what of the demonic rape-happy trees? “They’re not terribly well-behaved this time either,” Bruce laughed.

As for the new Ash …

I’m so excited,” Levy said. “I’m a big fan of the original. To me it’s the scariest movie, ever. But this one is really different. They’ve changed it a lot, but it’s still a pretty gory movie. My mom probably can’t see it.

As for the tone, Jane says, “I think the humor in the first one came from the special effects of the time. I don’t know that they meant it to be funny … this one is not funny. It’s definitely dark.

In FilmDistrict’s remake of Sam Raimi’s The Evil Dead, Levy would play Mia, a character that corresponds to Ash, who was played by Bruce Campbell in the original 1981 movie. Mia is one of five young people who head to the remote cabin where evil awaits. Recovering from a recent overdose, Mia is particularly vulnerable.

Raimi, Campbell and Rob Tapert are producing with Ghost House Pictures. Fede Alvarez is directing and co-wrote the script with Rodo Sayagues. Diablo Cody (Juno, Young Adult) revised the latest draft. The movie is targeted to open April 12, 2013.

Please God, don’t let this one fumble the ball.

It’s obvious the female lead isn’t a horror fan.

I’m dreading this thing even more… Sighs. It’ll be like The Thing remake, just sad.
