Uncle Bob Martin Joins Us on Dread Central

Here on Dread Central we strive to always find new ways to keep you guys informed and entertained. Sometimes that involves reaching back a bit into horror history, which is exactly what we've done. It is with great pleasure and honor that we announce former Fangoria editor from the Eighties, Uncle Bob Martin, has joined our staff and will be writing regular blogs pertaining to all things horror here for you all to dig on!
Rather than me telling you any more ... how about we let the man himself do the talking?
"My approach to the blog may be familiar to those who remember the earliest Fangoria -- I'm going to try to make anybody who reads it feel like I'm talking straight to them, and you aren't likely to catch me taking myself too seriously," says Martin. "And, while I might not be able to prompt an LOL every time out, I'll try for some :)s and, once in a while, a WTF.
At Fangoria, it was my pleasure to shape the magazine into what the fans told me they wanted, so every reader felt like Fango was their magazine.
The great opportunity of the web is that it makes that kind of two-way communication, that is so rare in print, a natural, effortless thing. Since that's what I loved in print, the web is like the promised land to me.
My favorite task at Fango was discovering the little movies that made big waves; I would endlessly dig through the show biz trades, looking for films in production that might prove special. You know how it feels to tell your buddy about a film you found that he's gonna love? I felt that way about Phantasm, Friday the 13th, Blood Simple, Evil Dead ... maybe not so much He Knows You're Alone or Fade to Black, but you get the idea.
Nowadays, filmmakers are getting their stuff out to the websites where they create and control their own buzz ... I want to avoid that if I can, and find stuff really worth getting excited about, whether new or old.
I'm not as nimble now as I was in 1980, but I think I could still beat Harry Knowles in a footrace."

Awesome news!!!! I grew up with "Uncle Bob" as our humble guide through the Good, The Bad, and the VERY ugly during his days of FANGORIA and his contribution to GOREZONE was a Splatterpunk's dream! Uncle Bob was one of the first horror celebs I met at the New York Fangoria Weekend of Horrors and I was totally geek-struck, but the personal touch in his writing made him seem totally approachable and we spoke about MISTER ROBBIE, the aborted MANIAC sequel for 20 minutes before I had to shuffle off and go bother The Chin for an autograph. Its a memory I'll never forget and proof positive that horror fans are family, something the folks at DC pride themselves on as well I feel. Having Bob at DC only strengthens that.
Great to see you're shacking up the the Dread guys Uncle Bob and PLEASE make sure they make a table setting for you at the next DINNER FOR FIENDS!!!
