John Skipp helming his own features, damnitSome damn good news came down the Sci Fi Wire for those of you who have been a fan of John Skipp for a while now, or at least read my review of his latest, The Long Last Call, and tracked the book down.

Skipp told Sci Fi that he’s in production on one adaptation of his work, Jake’s Wake, and is then moving on to a film version of The Long Last Call, which is going to require a massive amount of gore to be done right.

Jake’s Wake is a book Skipp’s finishing up work on now, about an evangelical Christian cable access televangelist who dies and finds his way back to the land of the living. Skipp said he expects that to shoot in December and the film to be done by next summer. The Long Last Call is about the horrific events that go down in a middle-of-nowhere strip club when a mysterious stranger arrives with a briefcase full of money and a desire to do harm to everyone. Skipp told the site the budget on both will be modest but, at least for the latter, there’s only on location needed.

Skipp said he got the director bug after Stuart Gordon gave him the thumbs up on a 15-minute demo reel he did for Jake’s Wake. Yeah, that would be pretty damn encouraging!
