As if the release of the long talked about director’s cut of Guillermo del Toro’s Mimic weren’t enough, Lionsgate has just announced a brand new box set coming to DVD and Blu-ray!

From the Press Release
Lionsgate presents the Blu-ray Disc release of the Mimic: 3-Film Set, plus the DVD, Digital Download and On Demand release of Fight the Fight, all available on May 1st, 2012.

Mimic: 3-Film Set Blu-ray Disc
Audiences will experience thrills and chills from the franchise that brought the epic battle of man and nature to life as Lionsgate debuts the Mimic: 3-Film Set on Blu-ray Disc this May. Available for the first time as an HD collection, the set includes Mimic: The Director’s Cut, along with Mimic 2 and Mimic 3: Sentinel – both on Blu-ray Disc for the first time and available exclusively in the set. Telling the complete story of one deadly genetic engineering experiment, each film includes a host of special features, certain to excite and terrify fans of the sci-fi series. A collection housing all three of the original film versions will be available on DVD at the same time, for the suggested retail price of $19.98.

Mimic: The Director’s Cut
Directed by Oscar® nominee Guillermo Del Toro (Best Writing, Original Screenplay, Pan’s Labyrinth, 2006), this cut transforms Mimic into a film that Del Toro fans and newcomers alike will embrace as the definitive version. The film stars Academy Award® winner* Mira Sorvino (Mighty Aphrodite) and Academy Award® nominee* Josh Brolin (No Country for Old Men) along with Jeremy Northam (Showtime’s “The Tudors”). The disc includes a video prologue and audio commentary with Guillermo Del Toro, numerous featurettes, deleted scenes, storyboard animatics and a gag reel.

The screenplay and screen story are written by Matthew Robbins & Guillermo Del Toro, based on the short story by Matthew A. Wollheim.

A disease carried by common cockroaches is killing children in Manhattan. In an effort to stop the epidemic, entomologist Susan Tyler (Sorvino) creates a mutant breed of insect that secretes a fluid to kill the roaches. This mutant breed was engineered to die after one generation, but three years later Susan finds out that the species has survived and evolved into a large, gruesome monster that can mimic human form.

*Best Actress in a Supporting Role, Mighty Aphrodite, 1995
*Best Actor in a Supporting Role, Milk, 2008

Mimic 2
Four years ago, a group of scientists successfully stopped a plague that threatened to overrun the population of New York City. Though all of the “Judas” bugs were thought to be dead, those that survived have undergone another terrible transformation and are once again threatening human life. The disc includes a couple of featurettes and deleted scenes.

The film is directed by Jean de Segonzac and written by Joel Soisson, based on characters created by Matthew Robbins & Guillermo Del Toro.

Mimic 3: Sentinel
When residents of an apartment complex begin to disappear, the unthinkable happens – the mutant Judas bugs are again stalking their prey. Left nearly helpless, a man enclosed in a plastic bubble, his sister and their best friend have no choice but to exterminate their insect enemies. The disc includes audio commentary with the writer/director, a behind-the-scenes featurette and cast auditions.

Written and Directed by J.T. Petty, based on the short story “Mimic” by Donald A. Wollheim.

Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation – First Trailer and Artwork!

Published

on

As a fan of flicks like Mad Monster Party, I was surprisingly pleased with the last two Hotel Transylvania affairs. For my money you can put the classic monsters in just about anything, and I’ll watch it happily, and these animated features feel like a natural progression of the 1967 Rankin and Bass classic. Which is why I’m looking forward to Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation, and if you are too, check out the film’s new trailer and poster.

Directed by Genndy Tartakovsky, who co-wrote the film with Michael McCullers, Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation features the voices of Adam Sandler, Andy Samberg, Selena Gomez, Kevin James, Fran Drescher, Steve Buscemi, Molly Shannon, David Spade, Keegan-Michael Key, and Mel Brooks.

Look for it in theaters on July 13, 2018.

Synopsis:
In Sony Pictures Animation’s Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation, join our favorite monster family as they embark on a vacation on a luxury monster cruise ship so Drac can take a summer vacation from providing everyone else’s vacation at the hotel. It’s smooth sailing for Drac’s Pack as the monsters indulge in all of the shipboard fun the cruise has to offer, from monster volleyball to exotic excursions, and catching up on their moon tans.

But the dream vacation turns into a nightmare when Mavis realizes Drac has fallen for the mysterious captain of the ship, Ericka, who hides a dangerous secret that could destroy all of monsterkind.

Universal Acquires Riley Sager’s Final Girls for Film Adaptation

Published

on

The “final girl” has long been a staple of the horror film genre, and lately there have been several films with just about that very same title focusing on her and/or them. Well, guess what… there’s another one coming as Deadline is reporting that Universal Pictures has won a bidding battle to option rights for Final Girls, the bestselling novel from Riley Sager that hit shelves this past July.

The movie adaptation will be produced by Anonymous Content’s Nicole Clemens along with Sugar23’s Ashley Zalta and Michael Sugar as that stand-alone company continues to ramp up.

Sager’s book centers on Quincy Carpenter, who 10 years ago as a college student went on vacation to Pine Cottage with five friends and came back alone, the only survivor of a horror movie-scale massacre. In an instant, the press dubbed her a “Final Girl,” coined for the group of similar survivors.

We’ll have more for you on this as it comes.
