Magnet to Let the RIGHT Subs In

Let the Right One In on Blu-ray and DVD (click for larger image)Who says horror fans can't get stuff done? Just yesterday we let you know about the ridiculous situation that Icons of Fright reported on regarding the dumbed-down English subtitles on the home video release of Let The Right One In. Today Magnet answered loud and clear.

The Digital Bits got the scoop right from the horse's mouth:

"We've been made aware that there are several fans that don't like the version of the subtitles on the DVD/BR. We had an alternate translation that we went with. Obviously a lot of fans thought we should have stuck with the original theatrical version. We are listening to the fans' feedback, and going forward we will be manufacturing the discs with the subtitles from the theatrical version."

That's nice and all -- but there's just one catch.

"There are no exchanges. We are going to make an alternate version available however. For those that wish to purchase a version with the theatrical subtitles, it will be called out in the tech specs box at the back/bottom of the package where it will list SUBTITLES: ENGLISH (Theatrical), SPANISH."

So let me get this straight ... if we bought the DVD or Blu-ray already, we're screwed. That's not exactly the right way to fix the situation. My advice? Head to their website and let them know in the nicest way possible that an exchange option may be a really good idea.

Major props to Rob G., Mike C., and the rest of the Icons gang. You've done us proud!

We'll keep you posted.

Magnet is a small company, so they probably couldn't even handle an exchange program. At least they're listening though...

Sent my e-mail to Magnolia Pictures. I really hope they change their minds, because I really don't want to spend another $30 (Blu-Ray) for the better subtitles.

Seems to be a ripe piece for collectors. I can't imagine enough were sold to really be a problem and those that did get them are probably horror buffs who would jump at the chance to own a "variant" edition anyways. But I'm guessing most stores will accept returns for those that really want to...

sucks that there's no exchange available after all they sold a product that wasn't what it was advertised to be. People bought it on good faith and now will have to double dip if they want what the thought they were originally purchasing.
