Nightbreed Director's Cut to Screen at Charlotte's Mad Monster Party ConventionNow here’s some good news! Clive Barker’s Nightbreed, one of the most fan-adored monster movies of all time, will be shown in a never-before-seen three-hour long director’s cut at the Mad Monster Party horror convention in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Saturday, March 24th, 2012.

From the Press Release:
In addition to this special rare event screening, Nightbreed stars Craig Sheffer and Anne Bobby (marking their very first convention appearance) will be in attendance for a Q&A session following the screening and will be signing autographs in the dealer room throughout the weekend. Mark Miller, Hellraiser comic writer and Nightbreed expert, will also be on hand to introduce the film on behalf of Clive Barker and share some insights into Barker’s vision for the future of Nightbreed.

Join Mad Monster Party to champion the cause and be a part of the growing movement to give the director’s cut of this beloved film its much deserved special edition DVD/Blu-ray release. We’re doing our part by sharing this cut and conducting panels which will explain the great opportunities fans will have to offer their support. Many thanks to Nightbreed distributor and owner Morgan Creek for giving us their blessing to show the film. They will be watching, with interest, for audience and fan reaction so let’s show them how much we want this to happen.

Once again, THIS VERSION HAS NEVER BEEN SEEN BEFORE. Pulling from three separate cuts of the film, and working closely with Nightbreed’s original director of photography Robin Vidgeon, Clive Barker’s team at Seraphim Films has assembled a composite that will be the most complete version of the film that has ever been shown.

Come show your support. As a work in progress, it is possible that you may never again get to see this version of Clive Barker’s masterpiece Nightbreed as it was always meant to be seen.

In addition to this exciting Nighbreed screening, come meet movie stars RUTGER HAUER (Blade Runner, The Hitcher, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Batman Begins), BRAD DOURIF (One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Exorcist 3, Child’s Play, Lord of the Rings, Deadwood), LINDA BLAIR (The Exorcist, Savage Streets), ACE FREHLEY (legendary rock guitarist) DEE WALLACE (E.T., The Howling, Cujo, Critters, The Frighteners), ROWDY RODDY PIPER (wrestling legend, They Live), MARKY RAMONE (The Ramones), WILLIAM KATT (“The Greatest American Hero”, Carrie), RICHARD MOLL (‘Bull’ from “Night Court”, House), ANGUS SCRIMM (Phantasm), and many, MANY more well known fiendish faces including some rare and first-time guests that fans have been demanding for years like the one and only Frankenhooker: PATTY MULLEN, who will appear in her iconic character makeup!

The Mad Monster Party is a horror convention with a difference. While other shows install a generic event in a random city, Mad Monster is building their show from the inside out. With the support of local Charlotte organizations like the “Visit Charlotte” tourist board and business leaders like Kevin Blanchfield and his Haunted Mill, Phillip Morris of Morris Costume, etc., Mad Monster Party is putting down roots and committing to a partnership with the Charlotte community to provide a unique convention that is fresh, theatrical, and offers visiting international fans a destination for years to come.

One-day and weekend Mad Monster Party tickets are available as well as a limited number of R.I.P. passes (for Really Intense Partyers). Among the perks RIP Pass holders enjoy are: early entry to the dealer room each day, access to the exclusive RIP Lounge, a walk- through of the Haunted Mill with celebrity guests, autograph guarantees, special reserved seating for events, free admission to special off-site events, a Mad Monster Party swag bag, and much more!

Massive Collection of Original Stephen King Manuscripts Tragically Lost in Flood

Published

on

The last couple of years have seen a massive resurgence in movies and TV adapting the works of noted author Stephen King. We got “The Mist”, “Mr. Mercedes”, “11.22.63”, “Castle Rock”, The Dark Tower, IT, Gerald’s Game, Cell, and more. The power of his words have clearly resonated across generations and are impacting viewers today just as much as they did readers upon release. For Bangor, ME resident Gerald Winters, King’s work is more than a passion, it was his life’s calling.

According to the Maine Public, Winters moved to the United States from Thailand over a year ago and established his own business, Gerald Winters & Son. A rare book store, it was Winters’ intention to collect and store as much of King’s original work as possible, including first editions, manuscripts, signed copies, artwork, and more. The collection numbered in the thousands, a treasure trove of all things King.

Tragically, some 2,000 pieces of his collection was irreparably damaged when a water main burst in front of his business, flooding his store’s basement with several feet of water, soaking everything. “You can’t replace this stuff,” he told the site. He estimates that only 10% of his store’s inventory was okay after the incident.

Many of us have our own personal collections of something, be it movies, books, comics, toys, instruments, records… Whatever it is that you hold dear, that is what Winters felt towards his collection, which included items he traveled the world to acquire. It’s beyond heartbreaking to hear of his story.

Truth be told I have not heard one thing about the upcoming Nic Cage period action-thriller Mandy until today.

That’s not to say I’m not totally intrigued by the film, which is directed by Panos Cosmatos who helmed the gorgeous mind-trip Beyond the Black Rainbow a few years back. It has just slipped under my radar.

But all of that changed today with EW‘s reveal of the film’s poster which is about as badass of a poster as I have seen since the fantasy flicks of the 80’s.

You can check out the killer new poster for the film in higher-res to the right and then let us know what you think!

Mandy is directed by Panos Cosmatos (Beyond the Black Rainbow) and stars Nicolas Cage, Andrea Riseborough, and Linus Roache and is produced by Daniel Noah, Josh C. Waller, Elijah Wood, Nate Bolotin, and Adrian Politowski.

Mandy premieres at the Sundance Film Festival January 19th.

Synopsis:

Set in 1893, Cage plays Red Miller, a broken and haunted man, who hunts the unhinged religious sect who slaughtered the love of his life.
