From the WTF? Files: Troll 2 Part 2

We’ve been reporting for a short while now about the planned Troll remake. Now comes word that filmmaker Claudio Fragrasso wants to make a direct sequel to his now legendarily awful Troll 2. Holy nilbog!
All that we know about the prospects of Degrasso doing Troll 2 Part 2 comes via BloodyGoodHorror.com‘s money quote from Troll 2 star Michael Paul Stephenson during an interview about his new documentary, Best Worst Movie (official site), that chronicles the notoriously bad Troll 2 from its 1990 filmmaking inception to its present cult status as one of the worst movies of all time.
“He’s actually talking with producers right now. He wants to make a real “Troll 3.” When we were in LA, we were going back to Utah with him and he said “Okay Michael, when we’re in Utah we shoot a little promo for Troll 3. You run into McDonalds and grab a hamburger and scream, and we use it for promo.” So he’s thinking about it and he wants to do it.”
They also got an opportunity to screen Stephenson’s documentary and noticed a tag at the very end that outright stated Degrasso is working on a script for Troll 2 Part 2.
The very notion of a Troll 3(?) raises three questsions in my mind:
1) Won’t the Troll remake John Carl Bueschler is working on lead to some legal snafu’s with the title?
2) Just because Troll 2 has become a bad movie classic does that really mean people want another?
3) What are the odds of recreating that Troll 2, uh, magic twenty some odd years later?
It remains to be seen if Troll 2 Part 2 will ever exist as anything more than just talk. Then again, there’s a
Hobgoblins 2 (story here) awaiting distribution as we speak so anything is possible.
Useless Trivia #1 – A Troll 3 almost become a reality back in the early 1990’s. Instead the movie was released as The Crawlers (review here), probably because it was about radioactive killer tree roots and had absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with trolls.
Useless Trivia #2 – Though I fancy myself a connoisseur of schlock cinema, I must confess that even to this day I have yet to see Troll 2. I’ve also never watched any of The Godfather movies. Which should I be more ashamed of?
