Classic Horrors, Howling at Shock!

Shock it to Me!Like watching awesome retro-horror classics you say? Especially in an old school movie palace environment? Even better if it happens to be in the heart of the “Paris of America” aka San Francisco? Well, that’s a pretty tall order, but you are in luck; Shock It To Me! festival organizer August Ragone has risen to the task and put together one of the coolest packages this bloodthirsty Butcher has ever seen! And it all takes place at the legendary Castro Theater early next month.

Opening night is October 5th, 2007. It’s guarenteed to be a Friday full of fearful fun with a classic Hammer Films double bill of Dracula Has Risen From The Grave and Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed. What could possibly make that even cooler you ask? Well how about old school Creature Features host John Stanley doing a live onstage Q&A with scream queen goddess Veronica Carlson? That’s right, the costar of the night’s films will be there to meet the fans and talk about working at Hammer studios with legends like Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee. Stick around late for a midnight showing of Killer Klowns From Outer Space as well.

The next day, Saturday October 6th, is every bit as mind blowing, as well. Legendary director Joe Dante will be in attendence for a showing of his werewolf classic The Howling! Joe is handling all of Saturdays programming himself too, so there will be a second feature TBA saturday night, as well as a family friendly matinee that afternoon (hmmm wonder what movies those could be? You’ll just have to keep posted!) There will also be a midnight movie that night, also TBA. Knowing the programming it’s sure to be a good one though!

Sunday, October 7th closes things out with a double-dose of double-features. Round one is a blaxploitation blow-out featuring Blacula and the rarely seen Sugar Hill. After that, it’s a Satanic send-off with the uber classic Rosemary’s Baby and a co-feature TBA.

Not a bad way to spend the weekend, eh? Hit the official Shock it to Me site as well as their MySpace page and keep up on the details as they develop. I’ll be back to drop a reminder with final updates the week before the fest. If you are in the bay area be sure to get to the Castro Theater for a once in a lifetime experience. Seriously people, this movie palace is amazing. It’s just not done like this anymore.
