Roland Emmerich to Take Us Between Heaven and Hell for ABC

While we’re not exactly sure how Dread-worthy this one will turn out, some news has come our way involving bloated action movie director Roland Emmerich’s new series for ABC that just may have a nice supernatural edge to it.
According to Variety, Emmerich has teamed with Mark Gordon Co. on the untitled project, which marks the first drama pilot pickup for ABC going into the 2012-13 season.
Taking place in New York City, the story is set against the backdrop of the Presidential race of 2012, when a young astrophysics student learns his destiny lies not in science but somewhere between heaven and hell.
The project comes under Gordon’s first-look deal with ABC Studios, which was signed last April. Emmerich, who will direct the pilot, wrote the script with Harald Kloser. The two last collaborated on the theatrical film Singularity, which Sony halted production on late last year.
