Looking to add some entertainment to your Halloween weekend? Starting to rethink that costume party you’re hosting for which you’ve got six confirmed attendees (and let me give you a heads up on their costumes: a Heath Ledger Joker, a sloppily made up zombie, a Johnny Depp Mad Hatter, Charlie Sheen, Lady GaGa and a random member of KISS)? If you’re in the Long Beach area and this is what your weekend looks like, read on because we can save it for you.
The Long Beach Comic & Horror Con will be held this Saturday and Sunday, October 29th and 30th, at the Long Beach Convention Center. You’ll have an opportunity to meet horror icon John Carpenter as well as Iron Man 3 director Shane Black. There will be a “Simpsons Tree House of Horror” panel and a rare “Robot Chicken” panel featuring Seth Green and Matthew Senreich. For all the details check out the Long Beach Comic & Horror Con website.
The film portion of the weekend is called the Might & Fright Film Fest. There will be screenings on both Saturday and Sunday. The focus is feature films on Saturday with screenings of Penance (Jake Kennedy/Will Clevinger), The Lost (Chris Siverston), Resurrection County (James Cotten, Adam Huss), a spotlight on Jon Schnepp (“Metalocalypse”), and then a screening of Ward 13. Following the screenings is a filmmakers forum with the participants listed above as well as the directors from Madison County, Bad Kids Go To Hell and Creature.
On Sunday is a “Battlestar Galactica” documentary followed by a Spike Lee horror joint entitled You’re Nobody till Somebody Kills You. Short films follow, including Mail Order and Brian Pulido’s There’s Something Out There.
So fear not, left coasters, your Halloween weekend is saved. You can even wear your costume to the event, and I’m sure you’ll see some much more interesting scenery there than you would have at your six-person Halloween party highlighted by the guy in the tiger blood t-shirt.
