New Director for Neverwhere?

New director for Neverwhere? So Stardust opened this past weekend and, despite having every reason to look like it would do well in this post-Harry Potter/Chronicles of Narnia world, it was only able to pull in about $9 million. That’s not a lot, but hopefully word will spread and more will get out to see it, cause I would hate for it to have a negative impact on other Neil Gaiman-penned projects.

Especially if one of those project is Neverwhere, probably one of the best things Gaiman’s ever written. The original miniseries that was on the BBC many, many moons ago was actually written specifically for the small screen, the book followed after, and now a new version has been penned for the big screen.

MTV chatted with Neil at Comic Con and were able to pull a name from him who might be up for directing duties on Nevewhere, and it’s a pretty exciting one; David Slade, helmer of Hard Candy and the upcoming adaptation of 30 Days of Night that looks like it will kick all forms of ass. Of course there’s not been a lot of movement on it yet, but we’re going to keep a close eye on this one.

For those who haven’t read the book (get it here) or seen the miniseries, Neverwhere is about a man named Richard Mayhew, who one day ceases to exist in the world of London Above and joins the secretive, lost people of London Below and the significantly odd things that happen to him while there. Horror, comedy and magic all blend into one terrific story that will take a truly talented director to do justice to and so far it’s looking pretty good.
