Former NBA star Rick Fox is well-known for his acting prowess. Now he’s taking on a new entertainment venture. Fox is producing a web series entitled Hysteria, directed by Frank Lin, which is divided into 26 segments. The producers are releasing one piece a day until Halloween.

And just because it’s a web series, don’t think that they have a bunch of struggling actors and actresses in this one. Among the cast are JD Walsh, who was featured in “Two and a Half Men”; Emmanuelle Vaugier from Saw II and Saw IV; Todd Grinnell, who’s been featured in “Desperate Housewives”; Nolan Gould of “Modern Family”; and Laura Allen of “Terriers.” Cheyenne Jackson heads the cast. He has Flight 93 and appearances on “Glee” and “30 Rock” to his credits. A pretty kickass cast.

We’ve got the first segment of the series right below. To see the rest, head over to Rick Fox TV on YouTube, where they are already up to Episode 13.

Synopsis:
Best friends in high school Scott (Cheyenne Jackson), Jennifer (Emmanuel Vaugier), Gabriel (Vince Vieluf), Erin (Laura Allen), Andy (Todd Grinnell), and Paul (JD Walsh) get back together for their 10-year reunion. But what happens with the passage of time and best friends? This group soon realizes that sometimes memories – and friendships – are better left in the past.

As they relive their rowdy and romanticized high school days, relationships are rekindled and refreshed as each shares the highlights of their lives since high school. Paul is now a struggling music teacher while Gabriel rocks the international music world. Andy is a chiropractor, and Scott, the big man on campus in high school, is now a successful attorney and engaged to everyone’s sweetheart, Jennifer. Erin studies the scientific, metaphysical, and supernatural Old World fantasy and folklore. And everyone still wants to be the big fish in a little pond.

It’s not long before pleasantries and partying turn into the madness and mayhem of a horrific nightmare as hysteria takes hold. What seems like a horrible accident to one of their own soon escalates into a series of chilling unexplainable events. As each of them attempts to figure out what is happening, and how fate should take shape, the group becomes prey to a supernatural force that has already locked and sealed in their destiny.

From Director Frank Lin:
I was searching for a scare … and Hysteria found me.

The script is creepy and intense. It combines the two concepts that disturb me the most: accidents and insanity. These are realistic instances where you have absolutely no control over the situation or yourself. You can only watch helplessly as the horrific actions play out in front of you.

It is like in those nightmares where you try to run but you can’t move or that moment of panic just before you wake up; it is a moment of true terror.

Hysteria is built on such fears. Six friends panic after one of them accidentally kills the other. As each friend is driven insane over the course of the evening, they start butchering each other! What makes them kill? Is it demonic possession, or is it they themselves trying to take control of a bad situation?

The scariest ghost stories are the ones in which you cannot tell if there is a ghost. Psychological horror feeds on the unknown.
