Since its completion, writer/director Joshua Hull’s zombie comedy Beverly Lane has been taking the indie horror world by storm; not only did it recently win “Best Horror Film” at the GIF Festival, but it was also nominated for five Golden Cob Awards earlier in 2011, with Hull being named “Best Emerging Filmmaker” as well. Hull recently announced his plans to self-distribute Beverly Lane, and with the flick’s impending bow on October 25th, Dread Central caught up with him to get a few words on the DVD home release.
Hull told us, “We’d been weighing a few options with Beverly Lane, but to me what’s important at the end of the day is getting the movie out there so fans can get to enjoy it. It’s not about the money on this one; we’ve already made triple our budget back so I feel incredibly lucky to have done that. Now, it’s about sharing the movie, and self-distribution seemed to make the most sense.”
“This version is the same as the original preview DVD release of Beverly Lane; we just made some slight changes to some of the bonus material we included and lowered the price to $10 plus shipping and handling,” he added.
“When I created Beverly Lane, I never really made it for normal distribution means either; it’s a small, independent horror movie that admittedly has a somewhat limited reach so I’ve been completely caught off guard by the all the positive reviews and awards that have been coming our way. Hopefully the DVD release will help expand our audience once it comes out on the 25th.”
