Okay, so we’re not talking about the director of Chain Letter making a Street Fighter movie or anything like that, but Deon is just about ready to start on his latest frightful endeavor. Read on for details.
From the Press Release
It was announced today that multi-hyphenate writer, director and producer Deon Taylor (The Hustle, Chain Letter, Nite Tales: The Movie, Dead Tone) has chosen AKUMA as the next feature film project for his new Hidden Empire Film Group label. New York-based Screen Media Films, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Screen Media Ventures, LLC, has secured worldwide distribution rights to the horror film and is planning on the US theatrical release next fall.
Taylor will direct the film and produce alongside Roxanne Avent. Taylor also wrote the screenplay with Blayne Weaver and Joe Bockol.
The movie follows a young Japanese woman, Akira, who is looking to put her life back together after a recent tragedy. As she pushes hard to overcome these problems, she soon realizes that she’s fighting something very dark!
Taylor describes AKUMA (Japanese for demon) as a mix between Paranormal Activity and The Exorcist and intends to shoot the film
‘handheld style.’ The film will be shot in Los Angeles, Sacramento, Japan and San Francisco. Principal photograph is scheduled to begin on November 10th.
