Tania RaymondeYes, there has been a lot of Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D news of late. It’s kind of hard not to be excited for a movie that so brazenly disregards the nonsensical Platinum Dunes forays in favor of dropping back into Tobe Hooper’s original timeline. In that regard, it’s hard not to be at least a little excited for the upcoming sequel.

And I’m not the only one who thinks so. The editor of Shock Till You Drop, Ryan Turek, sat down with Tania Raymonde (“LOST”) for a discussion on her character in the new Texas Chainsaw flick, as well as a little bit about what attracted her to the role.

“I think it’s going to be great,” Raymonde told Shock. “It’s cool to be part of such a cult phenomenon like Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I never saw the [2003] remake [or the prequel]. I saw the original and it scared the crap out of me, deeply disturbing me.”

And while the actress is no stranger to physical roles, she discusses her reluctance to come aboard the established horror franchise. “It was a little traumatic because this is a very intense movie. People expect there to be some tongue-in-cheek, but there’s not. This movie takes off where the original started and stands on its own as a thriller and origin story. There’s something epic and scary about it as it delves into this disturbed mind that is not right. It’s got a lot of action, so it’s cool.”

She also talked about her character, revealing what makes Nikki so different from the average genre cliche: “Nikki is a party girl, but she’s got a lot of balls. There are some moments toward the middle of the movie where she kicks some ass and isn’t the typical slutty best friend. There are a lot of unorthodox things about this movie that are original and new. I don’t think people are going to be disappointed.”

We’ll find out for sure when The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D hits theaters on October 5th, 2012, courtesy of Lionsgate.

Takes up just after the original? Pardon, Hooper already did that with the massively underrated Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2.

Did the producers of this even watch any of the original films?

I actually count myself among the fans of the Platinum Dunes forays, especially TCM: The Beginning, but realize I’m in the minority on that one. Regardless, a change of pace sounds like a good idea for the franchise. I’m a little concerned about the 3D aspect, though. If they’re not going for a tongue-in-cheek tone, like she says above, I fear the movie runs the risk of being just flat-out cheesy.
