The Hollywood Reporter
Last night Dexter and his Dark Passenger returned to Showtime in top form, free of just about all of the things that made last season kind of suck. Don’t believe us? Then how about you watch the premiere episode right now?
If you haven’t watched it already, you’re in a small crowd. Per The Hollywood Reporter the Season 6 debut marked the series’ highest-rated premiere ever, drawing 2.2 million viewers at 9 p.m. for its best season bow ever and Showtime’s top telecast this year. It was up 24 percent compared with the fifth season opener. It also ranks as the premium cable network’s best season premiere for an original series in 14 years, topping 1997’s “Stargate”.
Repeat viewings at 11 p.m. and 1 a.m. drew an additional 571,000 viewers for a total of 2.76 million – up 18 percent year-over-year.
Jordana Spiro, Edward James Olmos, Colin Hanks, Molly Parker, Brea Grant, Aimee Garcia, Mos Def, Josh Cooke, and Billy Brown have all landed guest starring or recurring arcs in “Dexter” Season Six, joining regulars Michael C. Hall, Jennifer Carpenter, Desmond Harrington, James Remar, David Zayas, C.S. Lee, and Lauren Velez.
The explosively popular “Dexter” is back with a vengeance for a sixth season of startling suspense and unexpected twists. It’s been a year since last season’s shocking and heartbreaking conclusion, and mild mannered criminologist-cum-grisly serial killer Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) has come to terms with who he is. But his existence is shattered when he crosses paths with an enemy unlike any he’s faced before. A delusional religious zealot with unflinching convictions, this new adversary soon draws Dexter into a dangerous game that could well end in disaster.
