Let Dark Horse and Tom Morello Rock Your Comic ShopRage Against the Machine… check. Audioslave… check. Sending an ass-load of swag to your favorite comic shop to celebrate the release of his new comic Orchid… possibly.

Guitar legend Tom Morello has been a kickass icon of rock music for decades, and he’s now bringing his unique artistic vision to the comic book world with the launch of his own title, Orchid, from Dark Horse Comics. If you play your cards right, your favorite comic book store can host the official launch party and land you and your friends loads of swag.

And just FYI, Dark Horse Comics tells us Orchid is “the tale of a teenage prostitute who learns that she is more than the role society has imposed upon her.” Ah, Tom Morello, always the lighthearted jokester.

From the Press Release
Dark Horse Comics is offering one lucky comic book store the chance to host the official Orchid release party!

That’s right! Tom Morello’s Orchid #1 comes out October 12, and to celebrate, Dark Horse Comics wants you to tell them about your favorite comic book store and why they should have the party.

Entry rules are simple: Enter to win by commenting on the Dark Horse blog. The store with the most love wins! One entry per person. Multiple entries will be deleted. The party is to be held the evening of October 12, 2011.

One store will win a release night party package including:

  • 10 signed copies of Orchid
  • 200 other Dark Horse comics to give away
  • 10 trades to give away
  • Orchid posters
  • Dark Horse Comics key chains
  • An assortment of Dark Horse Comics buttons
  • 4 Dark Horse Comics coffee mugs
  • Tom Morello’s The Nightwatchman CDs
  • Pizza
  • A store-exclusive Orchid miniprint
  • And more!

The contest ends on September 30 so get on the Dark Horse blog and tell them why your local comic book shop should win the official Orchid release party!

From the mind of Tom Morello, Orchid is brought to life on the page with art by Scott Hepburn (Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic).

    About Orchid:
When the seas rose, genetic codes were smashed. Now human settlements are ringed by a dense wilderness, from which ferocious new animal species prey on the helpless. The high ground belongs to the rich and powerful, who overlook swampland shantytowns from their fortresslike cities. Iron-fisted rule ensures order and allows the wealthy to harvest the poor as slaves. Welcome to the world of Orchid.

Thelma Is Fantastic and Now You Can Watch the Opening Scene

    Published

    on

One of this year’s most beautiful and subdued horror films is Joachim Trier’s Thelma (review), which opens in Los Angeles tonight. To give you a bit of what the film is like, The Orchard have released the opening scene, which shows a man and his daughter hunting in the bleak Norwegian winter. When they come across a young deer, the true intentions of this trip become apparent…

Having seen Thelma, I can tell you that it’s truly something special. It’s a slow burn, to be certain, but it plays out gorgeously, resulting in a film that has yet to leave my mind.

Related Story: Exclusive Interview with Thelma’s Joachim Trier

Locations and tickets for Thelma can be found here.

    Synopsis:
Thelma, a shy young student, has just left her religious family in a small town on the west coast of Norway to study at a university in Oslo. While at the library one day, she experiences a violent, unexpected seizure. Soon after, she finds herself intensely drawn toward Anja, a beautiful young student who reciprocates Thelma’s powerful attraction. As the semester continues, Thelma becomes increasingly overwhelmed by her intense feelings for Anja – feelings she doesn’t dare acknowledge, even to herself – while at the same time experiencing even more extreme seizures. As it becomes clearer that the seizures are a symptom of inexplicable, often dangerous, supernatural abilities, Thelma is confronted with tragic secrets of her past, and the terrifying implications of her powers.
