Every now and the, an indie film will show up on our radar seemingly out of nowhere and catch us by surprise. In this day and age when so many filmmakers want to be followed from the moment their film is conceived till the moment it hits the big screen, it’s nearly unheard for a horror movie to get made without someone online knowing of it.
But Josh Eisenstadt, director of Dark Reel, has done a pretty good job of keeping things quiet since the film went into production. Then, all of a sudden, the movie is done and he wants people to know about it. Can’t blame him, either; with a cast that includes Eddie Furlong, Tony Todd, Tiffany Shepis, Lance Henriksen and Mercedes McNab, there’s a lot to look forward to in Dark Reel.
So what is it all about? Furlong stars as lifelong B-movie fan Adam Waltz who wins a role in a film featuring scream queen Cassie Blue (Shepis). He thinks everything’s finally starting to turn around for him when all of a sudden cast and crew start dying left and right. The small production suddenly has some major attention thrust on it, and everyone becomes a suspect.
There’s nothing out there yet from anyone who’s seen it, since the film has just recently been finished, so we can’t say how it turned out but apparently a lot of those involved are pretty damn happy with the final results. Director Eisenstadt sent us over a whole bucket full of images for Dread Central readers to check out exclusively, most from behind the scenes.
