James Wan Announces New Adaptation of Stephen King’s The Tommyknockers

Do you guys remember that back in 1993, ABC produced a mini-series based on Stephen King’s The Tommyknockers? I sure do. I went on an epic Stephen King binge watch last year, and that included giving “The Tommyknockers” another go. It’s bad. Like really bad. But that said I do think there is a quaily adaptation left to pull from King’s novel.

And speaking of which, today we just received news via THR that none other than James Wan is planning to bring the novel to the big screen soon. Wan will be joining forces with IT producer Roy Lee and the ABC mini-series’ executive producer Larry Sanitsky.

It is an allegorical tale of addiction (Stephen was struggling with his own at the time), the threat of nuclear power, the danger of mass hysteria and the absurdity of technical evolution run amuck,” Sanitsky says. “All are as relevant today as the day the novel was written. It is also a tale about the eternal power of love and the grace of redemption.”

Wan and Lee, who will produce via their respective banners, Atomic Monster and Vertigo Entertainment, sent out a package to studios and digital streamers such as Netflix on Thursday, and said package is “expected to garner keen interest.”
