Home Invasion + Alien Invasion = Blumhouse’s New Sci-Fi Flick Invasion

Blumhouse has just snagged the rights to a spec script written John Swetnam (Into the Storm) and Harris Wilkinson (Leprechaun: Origins) that, get this, involves a home invasion that happens during an alien invasion, and it’s called – wait for it – Invasion.

As silly (or genius) as that premise is, Variety reports the spec script includes “a sci-fi premise with themes that include immigration” and “a strong female role in the film.

Blumhouse’s deal includes something called “progress to production language.” Which I guess is a good thing as the flick is expected to begin production later this year.

No for real, let’s Google that term.

Okay, done.

Progress to production language means “a clause which obligates the company to steadily to move the project along (by hiring casting directors, making offers to actors, etc.) or else have the project revert back to its original rights holder.

The more you know, right?

The film will be produced by Jason Blum and Swetnam, and Wilkinson will be exec producer. Blumhouse’s Ryan Turek brought in the project and will be co-producer.

We’ll let you know when we hear more.
