Cave-Diving 47 Meters Down Sequel Will Be “The Descent Underwater”

I hate the water. I hate sharks. I strongly dislike caves. Looks like director Johannes Roberts’ (The Strangers: Prey at Night) sequel to 47 Meters Down is going to be just my cup of tea.

Yes, 48 Meters Down will be a cave-diving movie about underwater spelunkers who meet the end of their respective asses at the jaws of cave-dwelling sharks. And I have zero sympathies for the lot of them. That is what you get.

And if all of that nonsense wasn’t enough to get your butt into the safety of a theater seat, then maybe director Johannes Roberts’ recent comments to Daily Dead regarding the film will seal the deal. Roberts basically said his new film will be Neil Marshall’s The Descent underwater.

Now, I get to go off and basically do The Descent underwater,” he told the site. “It’s going to be really cool and terrifying. I learned how to cave dive while I did 47 Meters Down, and I remembered when I did it, I came out and I was like, “If we ever do a sequel, that’s where we’re doing it,” because it’s the most terrifying thing I’ve ever done in my life.”

I’m sold. Say no more. What do you think of this sequel? Let us know below!

The sequel is directed by Johannes Roberts from a script he co-wrote with Ernest Riera. James Harris, Mark Lane, Wayne Marc Godfrey and Robert Jones are producing.

Synopsis:

48 Meters Down takes place in the backpacking mecca of Brazil, against the backdrop of the country’s vibrant culture, party atmosphere and beautiful beaches. A group of five girls from different backgrounds and countries are united by their lust for life and adventure in the coastal metropolis of Recife. Looking to get off the well-worn tourist trail, they hear about a hidden underwater ruin from a local guide and seize the opportunity to discover their own Atlantis beneath the turquoise waves. Unbeknownst to them, the caves where the forgotten city lies are not completely uninhabited, and as they swim deeper into the submerged labyrinth of caves they enter the territory of the deadliest shark species in the ocean.
