Horror Wins BIG at the 2018 Spirit Awards and Oscars

It was a great weekend for the horror genre as both the Independent Spirit Awards and the 90th Academy Awards had no choice but to recognize the legitimacy of what we do. That’s right, kids! Horror was out in full force, and it was glorious.

On Saturday night, March 3rd, Jordan Peele won Film Independent Spirit Awards for both Best Feature and Best Director, and then the following night Peele nabbed an Oscar for Best Original Screeenplay for his Blumhouse feature Get Out (review). And the angels sing!

Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water (review) scored big at the Oscars as well as it was nominated for a whopping 13 Academy Awards and took home four of them! The flick swam away with the gold for Best Feature Film, Best Director (del Toro), Best Original Score (Alexandre Desplat), and Best Production Design (Paul D. Austerberry, Jeffrey A. Melvin, Shane Vieau).
