A Found Footage Friday the 13th?There’s been a lot of buzz around the industry recently about one of the big slasher franchises looking to take the found footage approach. Though everyone was trying to keep it quiet, that nasty old cat is finally out of the bag.

According to Shock Till You Drop, after a bit of digging, it has been revealed that the folks behind the next Friday the 13th film have been heavily considering the cinéma vérité approach for the next entry in the long running series.

And who are the people behind it? Brad Fuller at Platinum Dunes assured Shock today that there is still no movement on any sort of sequel to the Dunes’ 2009 production. He also would not confirm or deny the company is fielding ideas from other writers.

The reality is that unless all the powers that be (including Paramount, Platinum Dunes, New Line and Sean Cunningham) come to an agreement of sorts, we won’t be taking a trip back to Crystal Lake any time soon.

What do you think about the possible change in narrative and shooting style? Sound off below!

No thank you! I’ll pass on this one.

I cant see how they’d attempt to even make this work I mean we already know everything there is to know about Jason, we’ve got his back story and everything…

The only way they could really do this is if it where like of his child hood of when he was alive maybe show found fottage of what the consolers where doing when he drowned but thats really the only way I see this working…

Though I would like to see a Jason film in Jason’s POV, it would just be intresting to see the kills like he sees them and just I think less focuse on the campers would be cool, not like they give them enough depth for anyone to care if they live or die.

If Jason’s the one with the camera, I hope he uses his good eye to frame his shots.

Well, it’s not like there’s anywhere to go but up, I mean, as long as they don’t the series over to Ulli Lommel or something.

I just want an F13 sequel. I don’t care how we get it.

Sorry, I’m feeling sarcastic this morning and when I saw your post that ^ was the first thing I thought of.

I don’t think a found footage approach would work for Friday the 13th. It’s just not the franchise I think that’d support that kind of filmmaking style. The best kind of found footage films are those that appear authentic and F13 is too recognizable for something like this to work I think.

Friday the 13th died with the 80’s. Any attempt to stylize it will strip it of its fun.

  • Vanvance1

This is the WORST idea for a Friday sequel ever.

  • LifeMi

As long as Platinum Dunes stays far the fuck away, I’d be cool with a cinema verite Friday The 13th.

  • MagusMaleficus

I’d gladly welcome a found-footage Friday…as long as those Platinum Dunes dipshits don’t go anywhere near it.
