The Digital Bits
A few days ago we told you that we’re getting another Blu-ray of Sam Raimi’s classic Evil Dead 2. This is necessary. For whatever reason, Anchor Bay’s high definition release from a few years back was a true disaster. I viewed it on a 80″ projector screen once, and was appalled by the waxy skin tones and rampant DNR application that removed film grain (and tons of detail along with it). Suffice to say, Lionsgate’s forthcoming title is a much welcome replacement!
Our friends at the Digital Bits are reporting that this 25th “Anniversary Edition” will offer up an all-new, 90-minute, HD, multi-part documentary titled Swallowed Souls: The Making of Evil Dead II (divided into the following sections: Dead by Dawn, The Chosen One, Madman Sam, Dead Effects, Re-Animated, Method to Madness and Rosebud). In addition to that we’re getting 2 all-new featurettes (Road to Wadesboro: Revisiting the Shooting Location of Evil Dead II and Cabin Fever), and an Artifacts of the Dead stills gallery. All of this stuff being BRAND SPANKIN’ NEW!!!!
Then there’s some groovy carryovers and other vintage stuff: the existing audio commentary with writer/director Sam Raimi, actor Bruce Campbell, co-writer Scott Spiegel, and special makeup effects artist Greg Nicotero), two featurettes (The Gore the Merrier and Evil Dead II: Behind the Screams) previously included in the Anchor Bay release, as well as the theatrical trailer in HD. Apparently there’s “more” as well – but it’s unclear as to what little surprises these may be.
Most importantly, however, is the announcement that this will be a brand new 1080p high definition transfer! Oh, and you can get all of this for the low price of $10.49 as an Amazon pre-order. This is one of those instances where I’ll happily double dip. Look for Evil Dead 2 on Blu-ray on 11/15.
