Dario Argento and Michele Soavi’s The Church Hits Blu-ray This March

“In this unholy sanctuary, you haven’t got a prayer …”

In case you didn’t know, director Michele Soavi’s (Stage Fright) The Church is a 1989 Gothic chiller about a group of visitors trapped in a medieval cathedral who are plagued by the evil demons that have been released from the crypt beneath it.

Dario Argento produced and co-wrote the flick which was originally intended to be the third entry in Bava’s Demons series before being released as an original film in it’s own right.

If you haven’t seen the film, you need to as ASAP. And what better way to view it for the first time than on Blu-ray? Exactly.

It is with this in mind we wanted to make sure to pass along the news that Doppelgänger Releasing and Scorpion Releasing will be hitting us with a restoration of The Church this March containing a new interview with co-star Asia Argento.

The Church directed by Argento protégé Michele Soavi, and co-produced and co-written by Dario Argento. The film stars Hugh Quarshie, Tomas Arana, Barbara Cupisti, Feodor Chaliapin, Jr., Giovanni Lombardo Radice, and Asia Argento.

The film hits Blu-ray March 20, 2018 with a pre-book date of February 13, 2018.

Synopsis:

Set in present-day Germany in an elaborate medieval cathedral that was once the site of a massacre of a village of supposed devil-worshippers by a band of crusading knights. When the church’s new librarian (Tomas Arana, The Sect) breaks the seal of the building’s crypt, he releases a cabal of evil spirits that are contained beneath it. At the same time, the church’s automated mechanisms are triggered, causing its doors to close and trapping everyone inside. The laws of reality soon collapse as a nightmare takes hold and claims the lives of those within one by one, threatening to unleash a supernatural pestilence upon the world!
