Razzies 2018: Transformers: The Last Knight Edges Out The Mummy in Nominations!

The Razzie Award

The film industry as a whole has always treated the horror genre like some misshapen creature that they keep tucked away in a closet a la The Brain That Wouldn’t Die. It doesn’t matter how much horror films make at the box office or how many countless moviegoing seasons we’ve saved for Hollywood… hell, the powers-that-be rarely even acknowledge the fact that some horror movies are even horror movies. They’re “psychological thrillers” or some silly jargon like that. Whatever, right?

At least once a year, though, the film industry takes a moment to make fun of itself as a whole. Lord knows they don’t mind including us on these auspicious occasions! In any event… this year’s Golden Raspberry Awards (aka The Razzies) nominees have been announced, and we have them for you below. Both Transformers: The Last Knight and Universal’s Dark Universe reboot of The Mummy are leading the wack-pack in terms of nods.

It’s fucking Chucky…

Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One kind of came and went this past summer and I never got the chance to check it out in theaters. I fully planned to – if even just to see Chucky share the screen with Christine and Freddy – but alas, I was just too busy (?) to head to the multiplex.

But if you’re like me and missed the film in theaters, then you’ll be happy to hear that today we have word that the film will be hitting 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray, and DVD on July 24.  And for those of you who just can’t wait, the film will be hitting Digital July 3.

Ready Player One is directed by Steven Spielberg from a screenplay by Zak Penn and Ernest Cline based on the novel by Cline and stars Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cooke, Ben Mendelsohn, Simon Pegg, T.J. Miller, Lena Waithe, Philip Zhao, Win Morisaki, Hannah John-Kamen, and Mark Rylance. It was produced by Spielberg Donald De Line, Kristie Macosko Krieger, and Dan Farah. Adam Somner, Daniel Lupi, Chris deFaria and Bruce Berman served as executive producers.

The film hits digital July 3 and will be available on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Combo Pack, Blu-ray 3D Combo Pack, Blu-ray Combo Pack and DVD July 24.

Special Features:

  • Game Changer: Cracking the Code
  • Effects for a Brave New World
  • Level Up: Sound for the Future
  • High Score: Endgame

  • The ’80’s: You’re The Inspiration

Synopsis:

In the year 2045, the real world is a harsh place. The only time Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) truly feels alive is when he escapes to the OASIS, an immersive virtual universe where most of humanity spend their days. In the OASIS, you can go anywhere, do anything, be anyone—the only limits are your own imagination. The OASIS was created by the brilliant and eccentric James Halliday (Mark Rylance), who left his immense fortune and total control of the OASIS to the winner of a three-part contest he designed to find a worthy heir. When Wade conquers the first challenge of the reality-bending treasure hunt, he and his friends—known as the High Five—are hurled into a fantastical universe of discovery and danger to save the OASIS and their world.
