We’ve seen very little of Darksiders III since it was originally announced last year, but IGN has now released a gameplay video in which Fury, the new protagonist, fights her way through a volcanic cavern before going up against a hideous creature known as the Lava Brute. Like its predecessors, Darksiders III will take place in a large open world environment set on a post-apocalyptic version of Earth, and fans will probably be glad to see from the gameplay footage that the core combat and platforming mechanics seem to be largely unchanged… except this time you’ll mostly be using a whip to take down your enemies instead of a sword.
Fury is one of the last of the hybrid race of angels and demons known as the Nephilim and the only female member of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. What we know so far about the plot is that it takes place at the same time as its predecessors, with Fury setting out to hunt down and destroy the Seven Deadly Sins.
Darksiders III is being developed by Gunfire Games, a team mostly consisting of staff from Vigil Games, who created the first two entries in the franchise. Set to launch on PC and consoles sometime this year, THQ Nordic will probably soon be kicking off a huge marketing campaign for what looks like it could be one of their biggest releases of 2018.
