The early bird gets the lycan! Er … something like that. In any event the trailer for Underworld: Awakening has found its way online early, and as per usual you’ll find it right here!

Underworld: Awakening stars Kate Beckinsale, Stephen Rea, Michael Ealy, Theo James, India Eisley and Charles Dance.

The screenplay for Underworld: Awakening was written by Len Wiseman (Underworld, Underworld: Evolution), John Hlavin (“The Shield”), and Allison Burnett (Gone, Fame). Mans Marlind and Bjorn Stein are directing the Sony Screen Gems sequel that is scheduled to be in theatres on January 20th, 2012.

Underworld: Awakening brings a stunning new dimension to the epic battle between Vampires and Lycans as the first film in the franchise to shoot in 3D.

Kate Beckinsale, star of the first two films, returns in her lead role as the vampire warrioress Selene, who escapes imprisonment to find herself in a world where humans have discovered the existence of both Vampire and Lycan clans and are conducting an all-out war to eradicate both immortal species.

Sorry everyone! My dog decided to repost as he stepped on my iPad!

There’s an awakening all right…IN MY PANTS!

I haven’t seen any of the Underworld films since the first one because they’re all pretty boring movies.

    • Uncle Creepy

How do you know they’re all boring if you haven’t seen any since the first? LOL

Surprisingly enough IMO the series has gotten better as it has gone along.

      • Masked Slasher

The second one in the series is my favorite.

When I saw it in theaters and saw the conclusion, with an insanely hot woman battling a gigantic werewolf to the death, I thought: “get out of my mind!”

The third one is also solid.

And I do think this fourth installment looks very good.

        • theGoldenSimatar

Totally agree with Creepy. Series has gotten better.

Personally part 3 is my favorite of the franchise; I’m just more of a werewolf fan than vampires I guess. Also the opening scene of UW2 got me jazzed for vampires with swords vs werewolves.

          • Vanvance1

I guess I’m in in the minority finding the Underworld series underwhelming at best. It started out as a poor man’s Matrix wanna-be hanging on the vampire/werewolf hook; then proceeded to ‘create’ an incoherent mythology.

Three is probably the best of the bunch but really that isn’t saying much. I don’t think the vampires are in any way vampiric and the werewolves are among the worst cimematic depiction of such ever.

And the f/x? Wow do they – hey it’s a videogame – suck!

          • Cinemascribe

I’m right there with you on this, Vanvance. I really did give it the old college try, but for some reason the Underworld series just never clicked with me.

          • Bulldog

I don’t think that you are in the minority. When I had my stores, I heard alot of the same opinions about the series. But some of the reasons I heard for the attraction are strangely similar. It’s not ALWAYS an in your face bloodbath, the action sequences my customers liked being a little Matrixy and as for the mythology, they liked a new kind of story, instead of someone try to bend the rules that we know and love. Me personally, I’m just glad the vampires don’t sparkle-or play baseball!! I actually have a dear friend who is so in love with the Twilight series-he is at least ‘Team Alice’-anyway, any time we’re together now and a storm rolls through, I have to tease him about wondering where the vampires are playing ball that day! Stupid, I know, but fun!!!

        • aliensharkboy

I with you there, Underworld: Evolution is my fave, Rise of the Lycans was pretty cool, but I prefer Kate with the cool guns… the 2nd is like a medieval film with cool gadgets and guns, plus it was much more entertaining than the first, which was good, but quite long and a little slow in places.

I look forward to this new one! I always look forward to Kate doing some hardcore fighting and shooting. 😀

      • Rottenjesus

Since I respect your opinion on these things I’ll give ’em a chance.

  • theGoldenSimatar

I think it looks quite awesome. Excited for quite a few reasons: 1. I’m a fan of Underworld 2. Stephen Rea is in the film 3. It was shot in 3D 4. It’s the first film to shoot almost exclusively on the RED Epic camera system 🙂 It’s gonna look SWEET.

The fact they’ve really progressed the story with humans getting involved is very cool. Hopefully there’s some cool gadgets to level the playing field between vampire, werewolf, and human

    • Bulldog

Here’s what I think of your points: 1. YES! 2. YES! 3. YES! & 4. YES! And I am girlgay for Kate Beckinsale!!! One of the sexiest scenes in a movie for me is in Underworld, when she jumps off the building, landed kneeling then stands up and walks away. To me-HOT!!!!! Of course I love Noomi Rapace- girls with power I guess is my thing!!!

      • theGoldenSimatar

Underworld 5 (never been good at titles) has Noomi Rapace as a vampire who is battling with the humans against her own kind because centuries ago the war destroyed her family.

Rapace vs Beckinsale. Be quite cool

        • Bulldog

Oh yes-that would be sweet!!! I would definitely pay to see that!! She would make a ‘killer’ vampire!!!

  • Masked Slasher

I would drink Kate Beckinsale’s bath water.

    That is all.

    • The Woman In Black

And yet Heather gets a hard time for commenting on Momoa’s “hotness” in her Conan review. Double standard! LOL

      • Masked Slasher

No way. I read Heather’s review and I completely understood!

You know, in principle! Not that I find Momoa all that attractive myself.

I’m more of a Daniel Craig type of guy when it comes to mancrushes.

        • Foywonder

That Daniel Craig mancrush certainly explains how you could give Cowboys & Aliens a pass.
