For Marcus Nispel’s latest project, Conan the Barbarian, the director decided to approach this reimagining a bit differently: Rather than remaking John Milius’ iconic 1982 movie that introduced the world to a then-up-and-coming Arnold Schwarzenegger, Nispel opted to rely more on the 1932 Conan short story series by Robert E. Howard.

He also used the Conan paintings by legendary Frank Frazetta for visual references when crafting both the look and the heart for the new movie, which stars Jason Momoa (“Game of Thrones”) as the titular character.

Conan the Barbarian follows the warrior from birth and over the course of a few decades as he sets out to avenge his father’s death and stop Khalar Zym, an evil sorcerer who is hellbent on bringing about the end of days after locating all the pieces to an ancient relic that not only has the power to grant him immortality but allows Zym to resurrect the dead as well.

Recently Dread Central was invited out for Lionsgate’s Conan the Barbarian press day, where we had the opportunity to chat with several of the film’s stars including Momoa, Rose McGowan and more. Up first is our exclusive interview with Conan stars Ron Perlman (Hellboy, “Sons of Anarchy”) and youngster Leo Howard (GI Joe). In the film Perlman portrays Conan’s warrior father, Corin, who never met a battle he didn’t want to kick some ass during, and Howard plays a younger Conan. Don’t let his size fool you, though; Howard is every bit as badass as his older co-stars and even did most of his stunts himself for the project.

Check out our video with Perlman and Howard below, and look for more on Conan the Barbarian soon!
