Joe Lynch’s Mayhem Fights Its Way to the Top of iTunes

This weekend saw the release of Joe Lynch’s Mayhem (review), which made its world premiere in Q1 of 2017 at Austin’s SXSW. After a long, arduous journey to this point, Lynch and the cast and crew of the film can celebrate as Mayhem is #2 on the iTunes horror charts, soaring past films like Alien: Covenant, 47 Meters Down, What We Do in the Shadows, and only being held back from the #1 spot by Annabelle: Creation.
Additionally, the film is in the Top 25 in iTunes’ Action & Adventure section. These are no small feats for a smaller budget film that hasn’t gotten a wide marketing push.
When we reached out to Lynch for a comment, he gave us a simple, yet perfect, “WHAT????” as a response. What can we say, Joe? You’ve earned it!
I caught Mayhem in Santa Monica, CA, where Dread Central moderated a special Q&A after the screening with the cast and crew. There we learned that the Faith No More sequence was originally going to feature Oingo Boingo’s “Dead Man’s Party,” that “The Walking Dead’s” Bear McCreary was originally going be the composer, and that there are over 1,000 VFX shots, thanks to the red eyes!
The film opened this weekend in select theaters, and you can find Mayhem showtimes on Fandango and on VOD platforms.
Óskar Thór Axelsson’s I Remember You also made it to the top of the horror chart on iTunes and is at the #10 position as of this post. The Icelandic film follows a young man and woman who move into an old house with a dark history. IFC Midnight released I Remember You in select theaters and on VOD.
