I actually now find myself feeling a little sorry for D-War. Here’s this giant monster movie that’s been in production for years, that’s been the subject of everything from anticipation to ridicule, that many (including myself) have wondered if it would ever actually see the light of day, and now here it is finally getting a major release yet it has already been completely overshadowed by the trailer and viral marketing mystery for a certain JJ Abrams-produced giant monster movie that may or may not be entitled Monstrous. Even worse, that mystery movie hitting theaters on 01-18-08 is going to have cost considerably less to produce than Hyung-rae Shim’s Korean-American expensive epic.
Here’s the first official “American” poster for Dragon Wars/D-War that Freestyle Releasing sent Fangoria‘s way. I can’t shake the feeling that the “They’ve made our world their battleground” tagline is a cheap way to try and knock off the Transformers tagline “Our world. Their war.” You’ll also notice a 9/14/07 release date on the poster. It’ll definitely be interesting to see how it manages at the box office this September, both in the United States and South Korea.
There’s also a new URL for the D-War‘s official site. I’d tell you more about it, but it doesn’t seem to like my browser.
