The Night Watchmen

Dread Central will be hosting free screenings of Mitch (The Hamiltons) Altieri’s award-winning horror comedy The Night Watchmen on Monday, November 13 in Brooklyn, New York and on Tuesday, November 14 in Los Angeles. The movie, about bumbling warehouse guards who must fend off a vampire outbreak, played over three dozen film festivals (including Montreal’s Fantasia and the NYC Horror Film Festival) to much acclaim and took home at least two dozen major prizes. Top cast and crew will be appearing at the shows in both cities!

The Night Watchmen stars Ken Arnold (“House of Cards”), Dan DeLuca (“The Wire”), Kevin Jiggetts, Max Wilbur (Thrill Kill), Kara Luiz (“Betas”), Tiffany Shepis (Night of the Demons) and James Remar (“Dexter”). Arnold co-wrote the film with DeLuca and Jamie Nash (Altered).

New Yorkers can catch The Night Watchmen (and eat a great meal in the process!) at the world-famous Brooklyn Alamo Drafthouse Cinema (445 Albee Square West; 718-513-2547) on Monday, November 13. Dread’s Tony Timpone will provide the meet & greet there. The fun begins at 7 pm at the Alamo.

DreadVision’s LA screening will take place at Hollywood’s swanky Arena Cinelounge Sunset (6464 Sunset Boulevard; 323-924-1644) on Tuesday, November 14 and will be hosted by blogger/filmmaker and Dread buddy SpookyDan Walker. Show starts at 7:30 pm.

These DreadVision Night Watchmen screenings will be free shows; to obtain tickets, send an email to screenings@dreadcentral.com. Please tell us which show you want to attend by listing “Watchmen: NY 11/13” or “Watchmen: LA 11/14” in your subject line and provide your full name. Offer is good for you and your guests. We will confirm your RSVP, but seating is not guaranteed, so arrive early.

Synopsis:
Three inept night watchmen, aided by a young rookie and a fearless tabloid journalist, fight an epic battle to save their lives. A mistaken warehouse delivery unleashes a horde of hungry vampires, and these unlikely heroes must not only save themselves but also stop the scourge that threatens to take over the city of Baltimore.

These exclusive events are presented by our pals at Orama Filmworks and Gravitas Ventures, who are releasing The Night Watchmen on Blu-ray, VOD, iTunes, Google Play and Amazon on November 21.

Check out this raves:
“The Night Watchmen, directed by Mitchell Altieri (The Hamiltons, The Thompsons), was made for midnight movie buffs. This demented cousin of Zombieland and Shaun of the Dead is as bloody as it is fun.”—Brussels International Film Festival

“…this latest throwback to the decade’s horror comedies is as gloriously demented as it is meticulously reconstructed. And with an undead horde of vampire zombie clowns running amok, there’s a lot of fun to be had.”—Starburstmagazine.com

“I loved The Night Watchmen and it totally deserves full marks…It’s the horror comedy of the year. Bloody. Hilarious.”—www.deeomen.com

“This one has ALL the makings of a potential cult classic. In the what-to-watch-when-you-and-your-friends-are-pretty-drunk category…this one is Citizen Kane material!”—Horrornews.net

“A little Shaun of the Dead, a little Half Baked and it gives you an idea of what to expect…The Night Watchmen is a film that could have a nice little cult following…If you are a fan of early ’90s cheese splatter horror, then look out for this one!”—Horrormoviesuncut.com

Six months ago out very own RKSDooM reviewed an indie horror movie called The Axiom. Specifically, he called the film a “stylish and clever slice of independent horror” and his review really caught my interest. So much so in fact that the film shot onto my must-see list as soon as if finished the review.

Wes Craven’s SWAMP THING Finally Coming to Blu-ray in the UK this September

Published

on

Although it’s certainly not considered to be one of his best films, I’ll always have a soft spot for Wes Craven’s Swamp Thing. Based on the DC Comics character, the film opened to mixed reviews when it was originally released in 1982, although it since gone on the earn a cult following, and even spawned both a sequel and a live action TV series spinoff.

88 Films will finally release Swamp Thing on Blu-ray in the UK on September 10, which will be the first time the film has been available on the format in the country. Extras will include two separate audio commentaries, one by Craven himself, and the other by critic and fan Ian Jane, and an interview with production designer Robb Wilson King. More extras will be announced closer to the date of release, although we know that the Blu-ray will come will also come with a booklet by critic Calum Waddell. The box art revealed on 88 Films’ Facebook page also promises that it will include a limited edition slipcase.

Swamp Thing starred Ray Wise as the scientist Alec Holland, with Dick Durock his titular monstrous alter ego. The supporting cast include Adrienne Barbeau, David Hess, Nicholas Worth, and Louis Jourdan. Whilst it was notably lighter in tone than most of the films that shaped Craven’s career, it’s still a film that all horror fans should watch at least once.

UK readers can pre-order their Blu-ray copy of Swamp Thing on Amazon.

First Look – GOOSEBUMPS: HAUNTED HALLOWEEN

Published

on

I’m really looking forward to the upcoming sequel to the Jack Black kid-horror flick Goosebumps. I enjoyed the books as a kid and dug the 2015 movie more than I ever thought I would.

And speaking of Goosebumps: Haunted Halloween, today we have your first look at Ken Jeong in the film. The actor dropped the first look image over on Twitter and you can check it out below.

He’s dressed as Frankenstein’s monster, but this looks to be part of a Halloween party so I don’t think he’s actually playing that part… But I guess we’ll see.

The film is directed by Ari Sandel and stars Madison Iseman, Ben O’Brien, Caleel Harris, Jeremy Ray Taylor, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Ken Jeong, and Chris Parnell.

Goosebumps: Haunted Halloween hits October 12th.
