Behind the Legend Book Series Perfect Intro to Horror for Kids

It’s the most wonderful time of the year: Halloween season! If you have children at home that you want to introduce to the horror genre, we want to let you know about a great new book series called Behind the Legend, which lets kids decided whether or not legendary horrific creatures are real. The series hails from little bee books, an imprint of Bonnier Publishing USA that’s distributed by Simon & Schuster in the U.S. and Canada.

Below is more info on the series written by Erin Peabody with illustrations by Victor Rivas that explores fictional creatures like werewolves and zombies along with real-life legends Bigfoot and The Loch Ness Monster. In Werewolves, readers learn about all the sightings and “proof” of them, from stories in history of wolves that terrorized towns, such as the Beast of Gévaudan, as well as people (even children!) who were believed to transform into wolves and other evidence. It also discusses additional history about the monster, such as how werewolves became major figures in popular culture, more recent supposed sightings, and theories on werewolf transformations.

Behind the Legend: Zombies
In Zombies, readers learn about all the stories and “proof” of them, from accounts in history and literature of people being made into zombies, including from reports Mesopotamia, Haiti, and America, as well as our own modern understanding of zombies’ qualities. It also discusses additional history about the monsters, such as how zombies became major figures in popular culture, more recent understandings, and theories on how people turn into zombies.

In Bigfoot, readers learn about all the sightings and “proof” of it, from the famous photograph and video to footprints and other evidence. In The Loch Ness Monster, readers learn about all the sightings and “proof” of it, from the famous photograph to the huge “footprints” found by the Loch.
