More Details Revealed for Supernatural Spin-Off Wayward Sisters

“Supernatural” Season 13 kicked off this week, and as we learned previously, The CW is going to be trying another spin-off from the show titled “Wayward Sisters.” This past summer’s San Diego Comic-Con was the last time we heard much about it, but now we have an update courtesy of EW. Here are the highlights; be sure to hit the link for more!
The spin-off hails from a quartet of “Supernatural” writers-producers: showrunners Andrew Dabb and Robert Singer as well as Phil Sgriccia and Robert Berens, all of whom will serve as exec producers; and EW spoke with Dabb, Berens, and a few of the co-stars…
Per the site: It all begins when Claire (Kathryn Love Newton) comes back to Jody Mills’ (Kim Rhodes) house. “Claire went out, she kicked ass on her own, but a crisis will occur that will force her back into the fold of the ‘Wayward’ family,” Berens explains.
And “home” will be a big theme: While “Supernatural” is mostly a road show, “Wayward Sisters” will stay in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, “…a place where romance can happen. Or rivalry,” Dabb says.
When Claire arrives at Jody’s, she finds a new psychic named Patience (Clark Backo), the granddaughter of Missouri Moseley (Loretta Devine), there; and she’s not thrilled. “[Jody] is constantly saying, ‘My door is always open,’ and she does it again in Episode 3 of this season, where we meet Patience,” Rhodes says.
Rounding out the “Wayward” characters are Sheriff Donna Hanscum (Briana Buckmaster); Alex (Katherine Ramdeen), the first girl Jody took in and the closest thing she has to a daughter; and Kaia (Yadira Guevara-Prip), a new addition who has the ability to walk between worlds in her dreams. Dabb says, “[Kaia]’s not sure who she can trust, but she starts to form certain bonds and relationships that make it clear that this is the place she needs to be.” She has a strong bond with Claire, who saves Kaia’s life when they first come into contact. “She wants to keep Kaia safe,” Newton says. “It’s really important to her, and you’ll find out why.”
Rhodes says not to expect just “’Supernatural’ with girls.” Instead, she says, “It’s ‘Supernatural’ with heroes that happen to be female.”
And what else makes it different? “WS” will feature a much larger support system for the central characters. Per Berens, the show wonders: “Could [hunting] be less psychologically and physically damaging than what we’ve seen Sam and Dean go through? That’s a really core question of the show.”
Speaking of the Winchesters, they won’t be popping up to help out the “Sisters” on the regular. But once in a while? Rhodes promises, “It’s made very clear why this is happening without Sam and Dean, although there’s a beautiful opportunity for them to come visit.”
