NCM Fathom and RiffTrax present RiffTrax Live: Jack the Giant Killer in theaters for one night only on Wednesday, August 17, featuring the MST3K guys providing their patented wisecracking commentary on the cheesy 1962 fantasy epic. Read on for the details.

Running at 8:00 p.m. ET/7:00 p.m. CT/6:00 p.m. MT/8:00 p.m. PT as well as in Hawaii and Alaska, RiffTrax Live: Jack the Giant Killer will feature the same comedians from the cult classic Mystery Science Theater 3000 (MST3K), Michael J. Nelson, Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett. The event will be broadcast LIVE from Nashville, Tennessee, to participating Fathom movie theaters across the country. In addition to the not-so-classic movie bursting with Vikings, giant rubber monsters and an evil sorcerer, fans will be treated to free digital goodies and a brand new short from the guys, as well as two original animated shorts from Rich “Lowtax” Kyanka of Something Awful.

Tickets for RiffTrax Live: Jack the Giant Killer are available at participating theater box offices and online at NCM Fathom . For a complete list of theater locations and prices, visit the NCM Fathom website (theaters and participants are subject to change). The event will be broadcast to 500 select movie theaters across the country through NCM’s exclusive Digital Broadcast Network.

“Being able to riff Jack the Giant Killer live is a dream come true for us,” said Michael J. Nelson, RiffTrax creator and former host of the Emmy-nominated, Peabody Award-winning Mystery Science Theater 3000. “Yes, it’s got a lot of eye candy: stop-motion giants, an evil sorcerer with an awesome beard, and as a main character, a dog that’s actually a Viking. Mostly, though, we’re excited to introduce the concept of the ‘leprechaun in a jar’ to the wider viewing public.”

Movie theater audiences at RiffTrax Live: Jack the Giant Killer will receive FREE digital goodies after the event – including a downloadable short, avatars and a digital photo of the guys, which can be accessed through a URL address that will be revealed on-screen.

A perfect vehicle for the comedic RiffTrax treatment, 1962’s Jack the Giant Killer was memorably described by The New York Times, which claimed “the acting is terrible, the dialogue is even worse.” When beautiful Princess Elaine is kidnapped by a hideous giant, it is up to the resourceful farm boy, Jack, to rescue her from his evil clutches. But no sooner is she free than the villainous sorcerer Pendragon bewitches Jack’s new love and locks her in his enchanted fortress. Now Jack must cross the ocean to brave dragons, two-headed ogres and an army of ghouls to save his damsel in distress.

“This hilarious live Rifftrax experience will have audiences across the U.S. rolling in the aisles of their local movie theaters,” said Dan Diamond, vice president of NCM Fathom. “It’s always a treat to broadcast the RiffTrax guys and their wacky antics live into theaters for these side-splitting Fathom events. Fans won’t want to miss another chance to experience a RiffTrax event!”
