Dark Corner Releasing App Dedicated to Horror Narrative Content

The world of VR original content is exploding. As VR becomes cheaper, more accessible, and better quality, it’s no surprise that filmmakers and creators are looking to the medium to see how they can push the boundaries of narrative storytelling. Perhaps the best and most immersive genre for this medium is horror, simply because we’re the audience that constantly craves ways to further our experiences. Now, that’s not to say that it doesn’t work for other genres, such as fantasy or sci-fi. But I contend that horror will have a greater impact in the long run. The applications are just so endless for us that it makes me excited just thinking about it!
Enter Dark Corner, an app that is dedicated entirely to narrative genre VR, which is available on iOS, Android, Samsung GearVR, Google Daydream, and Oculus Rift. The concept is simple: the app is home to a rapidly expanding library of original genre VR content with a slant towards horror (I love ’em already). New additions this month include The Peeler, due out this week on Friday the 13th, and Dark Corner’s latest ode to fear, which premiered late last month at the NY Film Festival, Night Night, which will launch on the 19th. Some content will be free while some will require payment and these, “…offerings will come from Dark Corner Studios as well as from filmmakers who gain the Dark Corner seal of approval for experiences of depth and quality that place them at the top of their field in the genre world.”
The app currently has eight titles and for those of you without a VR headset, Dark Corner will be in New York at VR World for a newly opened popup that’s a Halloween-themed basement floor throughout October.
